When to visit
The best time to visit Colombia largely depends on the regions you plan to explore, as the country has diverse climates. In summary, December to March is a great overall time for many destinations, while July to August also offers good conditions for the Andean region. Be mindful of the rainy seasons in specific areas, as Colombia experiences varying weather patterns.
- Caribbean Coast (Cartagena, Santa Marta): The ideal time is December to April, during the dry season. This period offers warm, sunny weather, perfect for enjoying beaches and outdoor activities.
- Bogotá and the Andean Region: The best time to visit is during the dry months from December to March and July to August. These months offer milder temperatures and less rainfall, making it great for sightseeing in the capital and exploring the coffee region.
- Amazon Region: The Amazon is best visited from July to November, when the weather is drier, though it’s warm and humid year-round. This is ideal for wildlife spotting and jungle tours.
- Cali and the Pacific Coast: For Cali’s Feria de Cali and the Pacific coast, the best time is during the dry season from June to September.
How to get there
To get to Colombia, most travelers arrive by air as it’s the most convenient and direct method, particularly from North America, Europe, and neighboring Latin American countries.
El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá is the busiest airport in Colombia and the main international hub, connecting Colombia with major cities worldwide. The other two major airports are José María Córdova International Airport, which serves Medellín and has international flights from North America and Latin America, and Rafael Núñez International Airport in Cartagena, which receives flights from the US, Canada, and several Latin American countries, especially popular for travelers heading to the Caribbean coast.
In Europe, Madrid, Paris, London, Amsterdam, and Barcelona all have nonstop flights to Colombia.
