When to visit
The best time to visit the British Virgin Islands (BVI) is from December to April, during the dry season. This period offers warm, sunny weather with minimal rainfall, perfect for beach activities, sailing, and exploring the islands’ natural beauty. It’s also the peak season, so expect more visitors and busier beaches.
For a quieter experience, consider visiting in the shoulder months of May and November. These months generally offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds, though rain is more likely.
The rainy season, from June to November, brings increased humidity and the possibility of tropical storms or hurricanes, especially in September and October. However, some travelers enjoy the calmer ambiance.
How to get there
To get to the British Virgin Islands, most travelers arrive by flying into Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island, connected to Tortola by a short bridge.
There are no direct flights from the U.S. or Canada to the British Virgin Islands, so most travelers fly to San Juan, Puerto Rico and then take a connecting flight to Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport. Other common connections include St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where travelers can either take a short connecting flight or a ferry to the British Virgin Islands.
Most travelers from Europe or other regions connect through San Juan, Puerto Rico, or St. Maarten. From there, flights or ferries are available to the British Virgin Islands.
