When to visit
The best time to visit Brazil varies by region and activities of interest. For a general visit, April to October offers pleasant weather in many popular areas, but if you’re attending Carnival or enjoying summer beach culture, December to March is a vibrant, if rainier, option.
- Southeast and South (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Florianópolis): The ideal time is April to October, when temperatures are mild and rainfall is lower, making it great for sightseeing and beaches. December to March is warm and lively, especially with events like Rio’s Carnival, but expect more rain and higher humidity.
- Northeast Coast (Bahia, Salvador, Recife): This area is warm year-round, but September to February offers the driest and sunniest weather, ideal for enjoying beaches and cultural festivals.
- Amazon Region: The Amazon experiences high humidity and rain throughout the year, but June to October is the dry season, with lower water levels, ideal for hiking and wildlife viewing. However, the wet season (December to May) has higher water levels, which makes boat travel into deeper jungle areas easier.
- Pantanal: The best time to visit the Pantanal for wildlife spotting is the dry season, from May to September, when animals are more visible as they gather near water sources.
How to get there
To get to Brazil, most travelers arrive by flying into one of its major international airports:
- São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport: Located in São Paulo, this is Brazil’s busiest airport and a major hub for international flights.
- Rio de Janeiro-Galeão International Airport: Situated in Rio de Janeiro, another major international airport with direct flights from North America, Europe, and some parts of South America.
- Brasília International Airport: Located in the capital, Brasília, this airport also receives some international flights, especially from neighboring Latin American countries.
